I’ll burn down the world before I let it singe her. The soldier in me understands collateral damages. This book is not a standalone, and it dives right back into the story just a short time after the ending of the last one, with Liam and Samantha on the run as he works to hunt down the bad guys and figure out a motive for all of the craziness surrounding them, all while protecting the girl he loves. There is a lot of love out there for this book, and the series as a whole, and while it started off strong for me, sadly I just didn’t feel this one. The third book in the North Security series, this book finishes off Liam and Samantha’s tumultuous romance. It should be read after OVERTURE and CONCERTO. SONATA is the third and final book in the explosive trilogy with Samantha Brooks and Liam North. Samantha fights to compose her own ending, even as the final notes rise to a heartbreaking crescendo. Except the spotlight puts her in the crosshairs of dangerous men. There’s a battle being waged in her heart, and Liam North is determined to win. Who is Samantha Brooks without her violin? Fear lives in the silent spaces. The encounter with Pärt is the highlight of the third programme of the series, in which Russell Beale and his musical collaborators – conductor Harry Christophers and his choir, the Sixteen – travel to Estonia and Poland, exploring the music of Pärt and that other famous so-called "holy minimalist", Henryk Górecki. He gave me this huge hug at the end, before he went on his way – to find he'd got a parking ticket!" I think he was very pleased to hear that interview again. "That bit was censored by the Soviets when the interview was broadcast. Pärt was asked in 1968 who his influences are, and after Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Schubert, and Bach he said, "Christ." Russell Beale takes up the story. The work is shocking in the context of Soviet politics for its explicit use of liturgical words and imagery. Russell Beale played Pärt the tape of a talk he recorded in 1968 for Estonian radio about his piece Credo, when Estonia was part of the Soviet Union. "He had seen the first series of Sacred Music and greeted me with, 'Ah yes, the great Simon Russell Beale.'" "We agreed to meet for lunch, and yes, of course he's formidable in person, but he was in a very twinkly mood," Russell Beale says. On camera, the 74-year-old looks gratifyingly like a recluse who has strayed blinking into the real world, with his intense eyes staring out from beneath his bald pate, and his thick, greying beard. There weren’t any points where I felt bored or wanted to put the book down. Dust is a primarily character driven story, though, so it still held my attention even when the plot lagged. Especially during the second act, it felt a little wandering. Swanson’s captivating sense of wonder makes this novel an immersive journey into a land you’ve visited in your dreams-and sometimes your nightmares. I have to admit that the plot could have been more front-and-center in a few places. “With vivid descriptions, conflicted characters, and spirited pacing, Dust has it all. Dust takes readers beyond the fairytale and, if possible, brings even more enchantment to the already beloved story." - Nadine Brandes, award-winning author of A Time to Die, Fawkes, and Romanov “A whimsical imagining of the dark side of Neverland. If you loved Peter Pan as a child, you’ll devour every gorgeous page of this romantic adventure! I can’t wait to see what happens next!” - Lorie Langdon, award-winning author of Olivia Twist and the Doon Series "Dust sparkles with hope, magic, and a little bit of pixie dust.
